International Co-Response Model Consultant
Based in the Greater Boston area, Dr. Sarah Abbott, Ph.D., LSW, has dedicated over 22 years to ensuring that police encounters with individuals in a behavioral health crisis have a safe and effective resolution. Dr. Abbott was the first Co-Responder at the Framingham, MA, Police Department in 2003 and has since replicated the model in 35 police departments across the Commonwealth. Dr. Abbott provides consultation and training for An Garda Síochána (Irish national police) and the Washington D.C. Metropolitan Police Department/Department of Behavioral Health Co-Response Team.
Dr. Abbott is the Director of the Center for Crisis Response and Behavioral Health at William James College. She is a board member of the International Co-Responder Alliance (ICRA) and the South Middlesex Opportunity Council (SMOC). Dr. Abbott is well-positioned to offer technical assistance and consultation on all aspects of the Co-Response model to law enforcement and behavioral health agencies globally.
Co-Response Research Symposium 2025
Dr. Abbott hosted the 3rd Annual Co-Response Symposium and presented on a panel titled “Evolution of an Assessment Tool for Measuring the Impact of Scenario-Based Training in a Classroom Setting.” This event occurred on March 24th and 25th, 2025, at the Kimpton Marlowe Hotel in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
