Dr. Abbott offers consultation and training on the Co-Response model. She works independently and collaborates with the following law enforcement consultants based on project needs.

 

Jay Ball, Police Sergeant, Law Enforcement Consultant and Trainer

Jay Ball is a 2004 graduate of the 12th Municipal Police Officers Class (MPOC) at the MBTA Transit Police Academy in Quincy, MA. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from the University of Massachusetts at Lowell and a Master of Science in Criminal Justice with a concentration in Forensic Psychology from Liberty University. Presently, Ball is a sergeant assigned to the Community Impact Unit with the Framingham Police Department. Before this assignment, he was a detective with the City of Framingham Police Department, attached to the Metro West Drug Task Force. He has also worked as a patrol, evidence, and school resource officer. 

Sgt. Ball was previously employed as a police officer at the MBTA Transit Police and as a detective for many years with the Milford Police Department. In addition to his current assignment, Ball is a Law Enforcement Liaison to the Middlesex County Veterans Treatment Court as it assists qualifying men and women who have served in our nation’s Armed Forces to receive treatment instead of non-treatment-based decisions typically imposed in regular court proceedings. Ball instructs various mental health, investigative, and narcotic courses to police officers, civilians, members of government agencies, and at William James College. He has been a certified Mental Health First Aid Instructor since Fall 2018. He currently serves on the Governor’s Opioid Remediation Fund Committee and is the Northbridge Trustees of Soldiers Memorials chairman. 

As a United States Army Veteran, Ball has experience with deployment and critical incidents, as well as helping veterans and first responders eliminate the stigma that is frequently associated with mental health. 


Justin Bonina
Police Officer, Law Enforcement Consultant and Trainer

Officer Justin Bonina has worked as a patrol officer for the City of Marlborough for 8 years. He holds a Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice and a Masters of Public Administration Degree. He is a FBI trained crisis negotiator and is the current Team Leader for the CEMLEC SWAT Crisis Negotiation Team. During his time on CEMLEC SWAT he has been the primary negotiator on numerous armed barricades, hostage situations, active shooter incidents, suicide attempts, and other crisis events. Officer Bonina has acted as a guest speaker and facilitated scenario-based trainings in the Graduate Certificate Program offered through the Center for Crisis Response and Behavioral Health at William James College, in Newton MA.


 
 

Artie DePinho
Police Officer, Law Enforcement Consultant and Trainer

Artie DePinho has been with the Boston Police Department since 2015 and is currently assigned to the Street Outreach Unit. Their mission is to assist people experiencing substance use disorder, mental illness, and homelessness by providing them with resources, connecting them with services, and diverting them from the criminal justice system. The Street Outreach Unit are partners in the Boston Co-Response program, and Officer DePinho helps train new clinicians. Officer DePinho has acted as a guest speaker and facilitated trainings in the Graduate Certificate Program offered through the Center for Crisis Response and Behavioral Health at William James College, in Newton MA.

 
 

Bob Bonina
Retired Police Officer, Law Enforcement Consultant and Trainer

Officer Robert Bonina (Ret.) was employed by the Marlborough Police Department in Marlborough, MA, from 1990 until his retirement in March 2023. Officer Bonina served in various roles while at the department, including Detective from 2007 to 2014, but maintained a focus on serving in the Patrol Division until his retirement. Officer Bonina was a part of the Patrol Division when the Marlborough Co-Response Program began in 2005. He is well-versed in incorporating civilian Co-Responders safely and effectively on calls for service. In 2007, Officer Bonina became a SWAT Operator with the Central Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council (CEMLEC). In 2009, he became the 1st SWAT Negotiator for CEMLEC.

In 2011, Officer Bonina accepted the responsibility of Crisis Negotiations Team Leader. In this role, Officer Bonina assisted in establishing and training the Worcester House of Corrections Crisis Negotiations Team. Additionally, due to his experience with the Co-Response model, Officer Bonina advocated for mental health clinicians to be involved in SWAT callouts, and CEMLEC became the first team in the state to incorporate clinicians into the SWAT team. Officer Bonina remained active as the CEMLEC CNT Leader until his retirement. Since retiring from law enforcement, Officer Bonina has been a guest speaker and has facilitated scenario-based training in the Graduate Certificate Program offered by the Center for Crisis Response and Behavioral Health at William James College in Newton, MA.
